SV Pittie textiles is spending $70-million to put a facility on a vacant site and bringing with it 250 jobs. This is the first US facility for the Indian based company. The company got big tax incentives from Georgia, including sales tax write offs for utilities. The group also says proximity to the Georgia ports and available workforce helped them selected Screven County. It’s not just job seekers who will see a benefit. The company needs cotton for its goods, and says it will shop locally. And if their company is successful, officials say there will be more plants on the way.
Construction should begin next month. The plant is expected to open early 2016.
