It’s been 25 years since the first Zaxby’s, then known as Zax, opened for business. The original location was a shack in the University Plaza parking lot. It didn’t take long for Zax to become a staple for students and others who visited the Georgia Southern Campus. Zax became the go-to lunch spot, just like Fast & Easy would soon become for kegs. Here’s a little-known nugget of trivia for you. Did you know that Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, of the R&B group TLC, was one of the first Zax employees? Looking back on it all, big things were brewing in Collegeboro during those days.
Fast forward to March, 30, 2015 and the cycle is complete. A new Zaxby’s is now open near the epicenter of it all. The new location sports their “farmhouse” design, which is more true to the original Zax and better reflects the brand.
To celebrate the grand opening, Zaxby’s will give away a Fanatic Pack of 52 Free Dealz — meaning a free item at the Chandler Road location each week for a year – to the first 100 guests in line by 10 a.m. In honor of the 25th anniversary, guests will be treated to throwback pricing. The Zaxby’s Chicken Finger Plate will cost the original price of $3.69. With 3,800 square feet and seating for 120, including outdoor options, the restaurant is the largest in the Zaxby’s footprint.
