GSU Cheerleaders Earn 4th Natty

The Office of Student Activities is pleased to share the exciting news that our Georgia Southern University All-Girl Cheerleading team has brought back a fourth National Title! Additionally, the Coed Cheerleading team finished 2nd overall at this year’s NCA National Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida.

All-Girl

This young team featuring 9 freshmen and no seniors was led by Junior, Chloe Cotter (Lawrenceville, GA, Mathematics Major gsu-cheer-champs-2015bin the College of Science and Mathematics) and Junior, Emily Harwood (Sugar Hill, GA, Special Education in the College of Education) The team started the final day in first and sealed it on second day of competition in part to their masterfully executed elite stunts and routine. The All-Girl squad bested teams from East Carolina, Penn State, Charlotte, Florida, West Virginia, Ohio State and Georgia.

Coed

The Coed Cheerleading team tied their best competitive finish with a second place finish

Led by Senior Carla Metts (Dublin, GA, Communications Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences) They started the final day in fifth place after a first day performance with a few mistakes. Moved up to second place losing to the University of Michigan and finished ahead of the likes of Middle Tennessee State University, University of Texas at El Paso, Kent State University, and the University of Missouri. Best part of their routine was their pyramid sequence that featured round-off and full ups and rewinds to the top.

Please join us in congratulating the teams and coach Barry Munkasy (gsucheer@georgiasoutnern.edu)!
